API, the American Petroleum Institute, is a leading global standards-setting organization for the oil and gas industry. API standards provide uniform specifications and quality requirements for oil industry equipment and materials, ensuring industry safety and reliability. API standards also provide guidance in the casing pipe industry, providing clear standards for its production, use, and testing.
API 5CT is the specification for oil well casing pipe and tubing for the oil and gas industry. This standard establishes the technical delivery conditions for steel pipe (casing pipe, tubing, and pup joints), coupling stock, coupling materials, and accessory materials, and specifies requirements for three product specification levels (PSL-1, PSL-2, and PSL-3). J55 is the steel grade for casing pipe used in oil drilling, as defined by the API (American Petroleum Institute) standard.
The chemical composition of API 5CT J55 casing pipe contains a certain proportion of carbon, silicon, manganese and other elements. Carbon gives it sufficient strength, silicon improves the toughness and corrosion resistance of the steel, and manganese helps to enhance the hardness and wear resistance of the steel.

The yield strength is generally between 379-552 MPa, capable of withstanding formation pressure and the weight of downhole equipment.
It can withstand complex downhole geological conditions and the impacts experienced during construction.
The high tensile strength, generally exceeding 517 MPa, ensures that the casing is not easily broken under tensile stress.
It has a certain degree of collapse resistance, capable of withstanding external formation compression without deformation or cracking.
