ASME And DIN Standards for Pipe Flanges

Date:2025-01-21View:373Tags:pipe flange, ASME standards, DIN standards

ASME and DIN standards are two different pipe flange standards, representing the American and German standard systems respectively.

ASME Standards

ASME standards are standards developed by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. They are characterized by smaller flange apertures and larger flange thicknesses, and are suitable for high-pressure, large-diameter pipe connections, such as in the petroleum and chemical industries.

1. ASME B16.5

Applies to pipe flanges and flanged fittings from NPS 1/2 to NPS 24, covering pressure-temperature ratings, materials, dimensions, tolerances, markings, tests, and orifice identification methods. It specifies the requirements for flanges and flanged fittings of 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, 1500 pounds and 2500 pounds from NPS 1/2 to NPS 12, and also includes requirements and recommended practices for flange bolting, gaskets, and flange connections.

2. ASME B16.20

Specifies the size, shape, material and installation requirements of ring-joined, spiral-wound and jacketed metal gaskets used for pipe flanges to ensure the integrity and safety of the pipeline system.

3. ASME B16.21

Involves non-metallic flat gaskets used for pipe flanges, including gaskets made of materials such as rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene or cellulose, and specifies their size, shape, material and installation requirements to adapt to different pipe sizes and shapes and ensure good sealing performance.

4. ASME B16.47

Includes the A series (MSS SP-44) large flange standard, which is suitable for flanges larger than NPS 26 and some flanges from NPS 12 to NPS 24 equivalent to ASME B16.5.

DIN standard

The DIN standard is a standard developed by the German Industrial Standardization Committee. Its characteristics are that the flange aperture and thickness are moderate, and it has good sealing performance. It is suitable for medium-high pressure and medium-caliber pipe connections, such as tap water, concrete and other industries.

1. DIN 2527: specifies the standard for blind flanges.

2. DIN 2573, DIN 2576, DIN 2501, DIN 2502, DIN 2503, DIN 2673: standards for slip-on flanges.

3. DIN 2630, DIN 2631, DIN 2632, DIN 2633, DIN 2634, DIN 2635, DIN 2636, DIN 2637, DIN 2627, DIN 2628, DIN 2629, DIN 2638: standards for welding neck flanges, covering different pressure ranges, such as 1-160 bar and 160-400 bar.

4. DIN 28115: specifies long neck welding flanges.

5. DIN 28117: specifies block flanges.

Summary

ASME and DIN standards are of great significance in the field of pipe flanges and are the key basis for manufacturing and ensuring the stable operation of pipeline systems. In practical applications, when purchasing from flange supplier, you should consult the relevant details in detail. Strictly following them is the basis for ensuring the performance of pipe flanges and achieving reliable connections.
