4. Apply the primer to the paintbrush and apply a thick layer to the carbon steel pipe. Let the primer dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
5. Using a stir bar, mix the urethane acrylic paint until smooth. Use a paintbrush to apply a coat of paint to the surface of the pipe. Wipe off any paint that gets into the end of the uninstalled carbon steel pipe to prevent contamination of the pipe.
6. Allow the first coat of paint to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. Generally, most acrylic paints are ready for follow-up coats after two hours. Finish the job with a final coat of urethane acrylic on the surface of the carbon steel pipe.
