Characteristics of flange

flange

Introduction to flange:

Flange is parts that connect shafts to each other and are used to connect pipe ends. Flange is also used on the inlet and outlet of equipment and are used to connect two devices, such as reducer flange.

Flange connection or flange joint refers to a detachable connection in which flanges, gaskets and bolts are connected to each other as a combined sealing structure. Pipe flange refer to flanges used for piping in pipeline devices, and are used on equipment to refer to the inlet and outlet flanges of equipment. There are holes on the flanges, and bolts connect the two flanges tightly. Gaskets are used to seal between flanges. Flanges are divided into threaded connection (threaded connection) flanges, welded flanges and clamp flanges. Flanges are used in pairs. Threaded flanges can be used for low-pressure pipelines, and welded flanges can be used for pressures above four kilograms.

A sealing gasket is added between the two flanges and then tightened with bolts. Flanges of different pressures have different thicknesses, and they use different bolts. When water pumps and valves are connected to pipelines, parts of these equipment are also made into corresponding flange shapes, also known as flange connections. All the connecting parts that are bolted and closed around two planes are generally called "flange", such as the connection of ventilation ducts, which can be called "flange parts". However, this connection is only a part of a device, such as the connection between the flange and the water pump, it is not good to call the water pump a "flange part". Smaller ones such as valves can be called "flange parts". Reducer flanges are used to connect motors to reducers, and reducers to other equipment.

Importance of flange:

Flanges are important components for connecting pipes, equipment, valves, etc. Their function is to connect different pipes, equipment and valves together to ensure the normal operation of the entire system. Flanges have the function of bearing various external impacts such as internal and external pressure, temperature changes, corrosion, etc., and need to have good sealing and durability to ensure the safety and normal operation of the system.

Advantages of flanges:

Reliability: The flange adopts the principle of face sealing, and the connection is strong, which can ensure the safe and reliable operation of the fluid conveying system. And it can still operate stably under high temperature or high pressure working conditions.

Economic efficiency: The manufacturing cost of the flange is relatively low, and it is easy to assemble by fixing methods such as screws or nuts, which can improve production efficiency and reduce production costs.

Easy installation: The flange is designed with disassembly, cleaning, maintenance and replacement in mind, and has good operability. When connecting and installing, there is no need to connect the connecting pipes in a straight line. You only need to align the flanges and then fasten the bolts. The installation and maintenance process is simple and convenient, which can save time and labor costs.

Versatility: The flange adopts a standardized design, meets the standards and specifications of many countries and regions, and can be used with equipment and pipelines of various brands.

Wide range of connections: Flanges are widely used and can connect equipment and pipelines of various materials, specifications and types, such as steel, chemical, petroleum, natural gas, electricity and water conservancy.

Diversified selection: There are many types and specifications of flanges. You can choose the appropriate flange type and specification according to different needs, which can meet various production processes and customer needs.

Good sealing: Flange connection is formed by placing the flange gaskets at both ends of the pipeline between the flanges and tightening the bolts. The gaskets are made of different materials, such as rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene, etc., and have good sealing characteristics, which can prevent fluid leakage. In addition, the flange connection adopts two methods: face-to-face sealing and full sealing, and the sealing is more reliable.

Strong pressure bearing capacity: The flange connection consists of multiple bolts and gaskets, which can withstand high pressure and tension. Under high pressure, high temperature and corrosive environment, the flange connection can still maintain stable connection and reliable sealing.

Disadvantages of flange:

Flange connection is not firm:In some occasions with harsh application environment, the flange connection may not be firm enough, resulting in pipeline leakage, loosening and other problems. This may be caused by mismatch of flange material, insufficient fasteners or improper installation.

Countermeasures: Select high-quality and compliant flanges, use correct installation methods, strengthen inspection and maintenance, and avoid connection failure.

Flange connection is prone to rust:The flange connection surface is often exposed to the air and is susceptible to factors such as oxidation corrosion, resulting in surface rust.

Countermeasures: When selecting flanges, choose anti-corrosion materials, strengthen maintenance and maintenance, and use anti-rust methods to treat the flange connection surface.

Flange connection has wear problems:During long-term use, the flange connection surface may be worn, causing leakage and connection failure.

Countermeasures: Reasonably select flange and sealing materials, strengthen maintenance and inspection, and regularly replace flanges and sealing gaskets at the connection parts.

Precautions for flange use:

1. Choose high-quality flange products from flange suppliers that meet national standards, and do not use inferior or uncertified products;

2. Regularly check the connection status and sealing of the flange, and replace, repair or adjust it in time if any problems are found;

3. The inspection frequency should be increased in places or equipment with poor working conditions to prevent accidents with flanges;

4. During use, strictly follow the flange instructions and installation list to ensure that the connection is correct and firm;

5. Before installing the flange, clean and inspect the flange surface to ensure that the surface is flat and clean, without defects such as sand holes and slag inclusions, so as not to affect the sealing.
