Definition and Manufacturing Process
1. Carbon steel seamless
pipe
It is a steel pipe without welds made by
rolling a solid tube billet after perforation. The manufacturing process mainly
includes multiple complex processes such as billet preparation, heating,
perforation, tube rolling, and sizing. This process makes the internal
structure of the pipe uniform and free of defects that may be caused by
welding.
2. Black carbon
steel pipe
Black carbon steel pipe is a carbon steel
pipe with no special surface treatment. It is usually manufactured by welding
or seamless process. It is black in appearance because there is a layer of iron
oxide on its surface. If it is welded, there will be welds; if it is
manufactured by seamless process, it is similar to the early process of carbon
steel seamless pipe manufacturing, but there may be no high-precision
processing links in the follow-up.
Chemical composition
1. Carbon steel seamless pipe
The main components are iron (Fe) and
carbon (C), and it also contains a small amount of silicon (Si), manganese
(Mn), sulfur (S), phosphorus (P) and other elements. According to different
standards and uses, the carbon content is generally between 0.05% and 2.11%.
The content and proportion of these elements will affect the performance of the
pipe, such as strength and toughness.
2. Black carbon steel pipe
The chemical composition is similar to that
of carbon steel seamless pipe, which is also mainly composed of iron and
carbon, and contains a small amount of impurity elements. However, since its
manufacturing process may be relatively simple, it may not be as strict as some
high-precision carbon steel seamless pipes in terms of impurity control, which
may have a certain impact on its performance.
Mechanical properties
1. Carbon steel seamless pipe
It has high strength and good toughness.
Because it is a seamless structure, it can withstand higher pressure. Under the
condition of the same wall thickness, it can withstand greater internal
pressure than welded black carbon steel pipes. Its tensile strength, yield
strength and other mechanical properties vary according to different material
grades. For example, some high-quality carbon steel seamless pipes are used in
high-pressure boilers, and the tensile strength can reach 415-655MPa.
2. Black carbon steel pipe
The mechanical properties vary depending on
the manufacturing process and material. The strength of the weld of the welded
black carbon steel pipe may be slightly lower than that of the pipe body, and
when subjected to high pressure, due to possible welding defects and other
problems, the performance is not as stable as that of the carbon steel seamless
pipe. If the black carbon steel pipe is manufactured by seamless process, its
mechanical properties are similar to those of the carbon steel seamless pipe, but
the overall strength may be slightly lower, and it is mainly used in some
occasions where the pressure requirements are not high.
Surface quality and appearance
1. Carbon steel seamless pipe
The surface quality is relatively good.
After a series of processing, such as finishing processes after cold drawing or
hot rolling, the surface can be smooth and the dimensional accuracy is high.
There is usually no black iron oxide scale on the appearance, and the color may
be silver-gray or other metallic colors, and galvanizing, painting and other
surface treatments can be performed as needed.
2. Black carbon steel pipe
There is a layer of black iron oxide on the
surface, which can protect the internal steel to a certain extent, but the
appearance is not beautiful enough. If better surface quality is required,
additional rust removal, surface treatment and other processes may be required.
Application scenarios
1. Carbon steel seamless pipe
Widely used in industries such as
petroleum, chemical industry, electric power, boilers, etc. that have high
requirements for pipe quality, strength and safety. For example, in oil
pipelines, it is used for long-distance, high-pressure transportation of crude
oil and natural gas; in chemical plants, it is used to transport various
corrosive and high-temperature chemical media; in boilers, it is used as steam
pipes and water pipes to withstand high temperature and high pressure
environments.
2. Black carbon steel pipe
Mainly used for some general structures and
transportation purposes that do not require particularly high pressure and
precision. For example, some ordinary supporting structures in the construction
industry, non-critical parts of water supply and drainage systems, or some
simple industrial pipelines, used to transport low-pressure liquids or gases.
Summary
In summary, carbon steel seamless pipes and
black carbon steel pipes have their own characteristics in manufacturing
process, performance and application scenarios. In practical applications, it
is necessary to reasonably select pipes based on comprehensive considerations
such as specific needs and working conditions to give full play to their
advantages and ensure the safe and efficient operation of the project.
