The concepts of anti-corrosion and anti-rust

Although the anti-corrosion and anti-rust of drill pipes are somewhat similar, they are actually two different concepts.

Anti-corrosion refers to the treatment of the surface of steel materials to make them corrosion-resistant and inhibit corrosion or deterioration of the material surface. Anti-corrosion methods generally include electroplating, hot-dip plating, coating, etc. These methods have anti-corrosion effects and can effectively extend the service life of drill pipes.

Rust prevention refers to the formation of a protective film on the surface of the drill pipe to prevent the steel material from being oxidized and corroded. Anti-rust methods generally include coatings, galvanizing, chemical treatment, etc. In actual production processes, anti-rust films are often used to prevent rust on drill pipes.

Anti-corrosion treatment of drill pipes

1. Use preservatives

In order to prevent surface corrosion of drill pipes, a common method is to spray preservatives on the surface of the drill pipe. This method can use both organic and inorganic preservatives. The advantages of organic preservatives are good wear resistance and long service life, but the cost is relatively high; the advantages of inorganic preservatives are low cost and good environmental performance, but the coating needs to be maintained regularly.

2. Coating

In addition to using preservatives, specific coatings or insulating materials can also be applied to the surface of the drill pipe to enhance its corrosion resistance. There are two main types of coatings: organic coatings and inorganic coatings. Organic coatings usually use polyurethane coatings, epoxy coatings, chloroprene rubber coatings, etc. The advantages are uniform coating thickness and short coating cycle; inorganic coatings mainly use ceramic materials such as alumina and silicon nitride, which have extremely high hardness and corrosion resistance.

3. Electroplating

Electroplating is a method of electroplating a layer of metal on the surface of the drill pipe using the principle of electrolysis, such as chromium, nickel, copper, etc., to enhance the surface hardness and corrosion resistance of the drill pipe. Electroplating can prevent the surface of the drill pipe from being corroded, and can also improve the hardness and wear resistance of the drill pipe. Currently commonly used electroplating methods include chrome plating, nickel plating, zinc plating, etc.

4. Hot dip plating method

The drill pipe is immersed in the plating solution. The drill pipe wrapped in the liquid can not only maintain the gloss of the surface, but also has the properties of wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

Anti-rust treatment of drill pipe

1. Passivation method: Use acid, alkali and other chemical solutions to passivate the surface of the drill pipe to form a dense oxide or phosphate protective film to extend the service life of the drill pipe.

2. Galvanizing method: Plate a layer of zinc on the surface of the drill pipe. Zinc is not easily oxidized and can effectively prevent rust on the drill pipe.

3. Chemical treatment method: Use chemical reactions to prepare nano-level oxides or pickle the surface of the drill pipe to form an efficient protective film to prevent oxidation and corrosion of the drill pipe surface.

Suggestions

1. Before using the drill pipe, the surface of the drill pipe should be cleaned to ensure that there are no impurities such as dust and grease on its surface for the next step of anti-corrosion treatment;

2. When using preservatives, coatings or electroplating methods, you should choose regular drill pipe manufacturers and suitable products to avoid losses caused by using inappropriate materials;

3. For drill pipes that already have signs of corrosion, timely repair and maintenance measures should be taken to prevent further corrosion and damage.

Although the anti-corrosion and anti-rust of drill pipes are somewhat similar, they are actually two different concepts. There are many anti-corrosion and anti-rust measures for drill pipes. In actual use, we should choose appropriate anti-corrosion and anti-rust methods to protect the surface of the drill pipe, extend the service life of the drill pipe, and improve production efficiency. Through reasonable maintenance and care measures, the stability and service life of the drill pipe can be guaranteed, thereby improving the efficiency of exploration and gas production projects.
