Ductile Iron Flange vs Cast Iron Flange

Characteristics and uses of ductile iron flange

Ductile iron flange, also known as ductile iron pipe flange and ductile iron connector, is a high-performance cast iron flange. Ductile iron flange is usually cast from ductile iron material, which has higher strength and better toughness, and is suitable for harsh working conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, alternating hot and cold.

The advantage of ductile iron flange is that it has good toughness, good crack propagation resistance under three-dimensional stress state, can adapt to the working environment of alternating hot and cold, and can maintain good performance under strong impact and vibration environment. Therefore, ductile iron flange is widely used in some high-pressure, high-temperature and highly corrosive working conditions such as chemical, petroleum, and electric power.

Characteristics and uses of cast iron flange

Cast iron flange, also known as gray cast iron flange, is a relatively common cast iron flange. Cast iron flange is usually cast from gray cast iron material. Although its strength is not as good as that of ductile iron flange, it still has certain durability and load-bearing capacity. Cast iron flanges have poor toughness and are prone to rupture under strong impact and vibration conditions.

Cast iron flanges are often used in some relatively common working conditions, such as low-pressure water pipes, water supply and drainage systems, hot water and steam systems, etc. Due to the low cost of cast iron flanges, they are widely used in some economical projects.

The difference between ductile iron flanges and cast iron flanges

1. Different materials: Ductile iron flanges are usually cast from ductile iron materials, while cast iron flanges are cast from gray cast iron materials.

2. Different physical properties: Ductile iron flanges have higher strength and better toughness, and their strength is much higher than that of cast iron flanges. Ductile iron flanges can maintain good performance under strong impact and vibration conditions. Cast iron flanges have poor toughness and are prone to rupture under strong impact and vibration conditions.

3. Different uses: Ductile iron flanges are suitable for harsh working conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, and alternating hot and cold; while cast iron flanges are suitable for some relatively common working conditions.

Summary

Although both ductile iron flanges and cast iron flanges are cast iron flanges, their physical properties and uses are very different. Ductile iron flanges have higher strength and better toughness, and are suitable for harsh working conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, and alternating hot and cold conditions; while cast iron flanges have poor toughness and are suitable for some more common working conditions. Before choosing a cast iron flange, you should choose it according to the specific working conditions, and select materials and processes according to actual needs.
